Science Olympiad is a science club designed to teach students about material that they don’t see in elementary school, or that they explore in more depth. The club is designed for any and all students (by teacher recommendation) interested in learning about science. In the club, we will build rockets and structures, learn about animals, study our Earth, and much, much more!
The Science Olympiad Team will consist of 20 students that are chosen through application, teacher recommendation and tryouts in October. There are roughly 18 different events at the regional tournament, in biology-, chemistry-, physics- and scientific investigation-based topics. Only 2-3 students can compete in a particular event, so if more are interested, the coach will select the students to compete at the tournament based on their degree of preparation, previous experience, involvement of an adult mentor, and mastery of the event parameters. Strong participation from both students and parent volunteers throughout the season is essential.
School practice sessions will be set by the coach leading the event. Practices this year will be during the school day at a time that works best for each coach. Once the students are assigned a sponsor, more frequent dates will be assigned.
