Dear Dames Ferry Dragon Family,

I would like to take the opportunity to welcome each of you to the 2020-2021 school year.  It seems like forever since we were last together back in March of last school year.  While a great deal has changed over the last several months, Dames Ferry along with the entire Jones County School System, have been working to ensure that our transition back to school will be one that is productive, safe, and exhibits a caring spirit.  Although our school environment will be somewhat modified based on the challenges of COVID-19, we are all committed to providing a learning environment that is as close to normal as possible.   As always, it is our goal to build on past experiences in order to maintain and enhance the Dames Ferry experience.

Once again, our theme for this year will be “GREAT MINDS GROW HERE.”  As part of our STEM initiative, we will continue to offer a variety of activities and lessons designed to spark interest in science, technology, engineering, and math topics that will make learning both meaningful and fun.  And we cannot wait for you to see our new Learning Commons area that is formally known as our Media Center.  It has been redesigned and given a fresh look.  Within our new Learning Commons area, different Maker Space activities will be available for our students to explore.

Enclosed you will find some general information that helps explain how the typical school day may look a little different.  One of the big differences this year will be that our Open House will not be held in the typical manner.  Plans are currently being made to possibly offer some form of virtual or interactive Open House so that teachers and families can become acquainted with one another.   Please understand that we will continuously monitor and adjust processes and procedures based on the most current situations.  Once again, it is our priority to make Dames Ferry a healthy place where our students can learn and thrive.

As you prepare to return, I would like to make you aware of some changes in our daily procedures.  Students may be dropped off beginning at 7:20 a.m. on the loop by the gym instead of the previous time of 7:15 a.m.  The drop-off loop is the only authorized and supervised place to let students out of the vehicle.  The drop-off loop will close each morning at 7:50 a.m. so that students can be seated in their classrooms and ready for instruction at 7:55 a.m.  Pick-ups will be dismissed at 2:45 p.m. each day.  Dragon Care will be available this year; however, students participating must be picked up by 5:45 p.m. instead of 6:00 p.m. as in previous years.

Mrs. Kim Jones, our Assistant Principal, and I are eagerly awaiting the first day of school which will be Monday, August 17th.  We cannot wait to see your smiling faces and look forward to having the Dames Ferry family back together.
